About the Art Form

Tanjore painting is a centuries-old South Indian art form defined by rich, flat colours, intricate detail, and dazzling gold-leaf relief work — traditionally used to depict Hindu deities and mythological scenes on wooden panels.

You’ll learn the classical layering technique: sketching the base composition, building up gesso relief for jewellery and borders, applying real or imitation gold leaf, and finishing with fine detail painting and semi-precious stone work.
