Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about classes, booking, and what to expect at Devi Arts. Still have questions? Message us and we’ll reply within 24 hours.
Do I need any experience to start? +
No experience needed. Most of our students start with zero background. Whether you’re 6 or 70, beginner or returning to art after years away, the same door opens. Each class begins with fundamentals appropriate to your level.
What materials do I need to bring? +
Nothing — all materials are included for adult and group classes. You’ll find canvases, paints, brushes, gold leaf (for Tanjore work), and any specialised supplies waiting at the studio. For online live classes, we send a materials list and source guide before your first session.
How long is each class? +
Standard group classes run for 1 hour 15 minutes (or up to 2 hours for traditional Indian forms like Tanjore that need extra time). Sip & Paint evenings are 3 hours (6pm–9pm). Private 1-to-1 lessons are typically 1 hour and can be extended on request.
Can my child join? +
Yes — children from age 6 are welcome in our Kids Art & Craft sessions, and motivated children can join the regular adult classes from age 10+. We tailor pace and content to each student’s level. Parents are welcome to stay in the studio for the first session.
Do you offer 1-to-1 private tuition? +
Yes. 1-to-1 sessions cost £40 per hour and are tailored to your specific goals — preparing for a portfolio, mastering a particular technique, or working on a personal commission. Contact us via WhatsApp or the form above to arrange a slot.
What's the difference between Tanjore, Mysore, and Kerala Mural painting? +
All three are classical South Indian temple-art traditions, but each has its own distinct character. Tanjore (Thanjavur) is famous for its raised gold leaf, gemstone embellishments and divine subjects. Mysore is finer and more delicate, with subtler use of gold. Kerala Mural uses earthier colours, bolder outlines and a flatter perspective. Each is taught from foundations.
Can I book a Sip & Paint evening for a private group? +
Absolutely. We host birthdays, hen dos, corporate team events, and resident socials at venues across Maidenhead. Minimum 8 people; pricing from £30 per person including all materials and a hot chocolate. Message us on WhatsApp with your date and group size for a tailored quote.
Do you teach online? +
Yes — most adult classes have a live online option for the same price as in-studio (£18.75 per session or £85 per month for 4 classes). You source your own materials; we send a list ahead of your first class. Kids Art & Craft is in-person only.
What happens if I need to cancel a class? +
Cancellations 48+ hours before the class are fully transferable to a future session. Less than 48 hours and the class fee is non-refundable, but you’re welcome to send a friend in your place. Monthly block bookings can be paused with one week’s notice.
Do you provide gift cards? +
Yes — gift cards are available in £25, £50, £75, and £100 denominations and can be used for any class, Sip & Paint evening, or private tuition. They’re emailed instantly and valid for 12 months. Buy a gift card.
Where is the studio? +
We’re at 5 Garden Boulevard, Maidenhead SL6 1QW — easy parking nearby and a 10-minute walk from Maidenhead Station. Sip & Paint events are held at partner venues including Cocoba Chocolate Café and One Maidenhead.
How do I book my first class? +
Three ways: (1) Pick a class on the Classes page and book a slot through the calendar; (2) message us on WhatsApp; or (3) fill in the form on our Contact page. Most first-timers book a single trial session before committing to a monthly block.
